"A teacher is one who makes himself progressively unnecessary." ~Thomas Carruthers
I believe that all students are capable of great learning. The degree to which students learn varies greatly from child to child. I believe in teaching each child in the modality that is best for them, which could be visual, auditory, or even by movement. I also believe that teaching in small groups is the most effective way to reach the many different kinds of learners in a class. Young children especially need time in their day to play. I make sure that my activities and lessons have games and movement in them, so that these young learners are engaged with the content they are learning. Finally, I believe that students at this age are capable of showing that they can become independent in daily tasks. I encourage them to unpack their own backpacks, come into the room and get ready to learn. I also expect them to be able to move about the room and complete activities and tasks with little reminders from me. First grade students do a great deal of growing and learning throughout the year. I am here to help them, encourage them, and to celebrate their achievements.
